Lynn Stedman

After being a Dental Hygienist for 15 years, I returned to graduate school and received a Masters degree in Clinical Counseling and Psychotherapy from Antioch University in Seattle, WA. I combined both careers in Bellevue, WA for 20 years until I returned to my home town of Richland, WA.

I have been in a second marriage and help raise and educate a 14 year old stepdaughter and a 17 year old stepson. My husband and both kids had ADD. I had to learn to be incredibly organized and non-judgmental to co-exist with them.

I work with individuals and couples and know the challenges of step parenting and blended families.

There are specific challenges when entering into a second marriage that are different than first marriages. The divorce rate is higher (particularly with couples who are integrating children into these second marriages). Careful pre-planning can make this important transition smoother for all concerned.

The model of Solution Focused Therapy appeals to me as I think having a goal helps couples set a direction for change. Change is possible at any age and at any time in anyone’s life. It can occur over a long time or the blink of an eye. Most people have difficulty answering the question – What do you want?

This is important to know to determine the most effective way to get what you want. My job is to sell hope that people can really ask for and get what they want.I completed training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) which is an effective type of therapy for people who experience occasional anxiety, global anxiety or PTSD. I have an interest in working with first responders and veterans who have experienced traumatic events in their work settings and carry the burden of these traumatic memories.

My goal is to live a productive life with few regrets. I believe in doing work that I love and always having a purpose to guide any decision I make to keep me on my path.
